Modern Specification Windows and Doors Hand Crafted Using Durable Reclaimed Pitch Pine

We build wooden windows in our joinery workshop in Manchester using pitch pine cut from beams reclaimed from 19th century buildings in Lancashire that have unfortunately been demolished. This reclaimed timber is highly sought after for restoration projects. There are obviously problems with using second hand wood, with the inclusion of nails, bolts, holes and splits. We have developed methods to deal with all of these challenges and our windows will not show these defects.
Pitch pine is a very dense and resinous wood used up to the start of the 20th century when it was exhuasted commercially. It is of the same family and shares an approximate appearance with pine though the grain is much closer, it is much more resinous and heavier, and it is a shade or two darker. Although botanically a softwood, it shares more of the properties of a hardwood. The durability of this timber against the elements is unsurpassed. Many 100 year old windows built from it are still sound and show no signs of rot. In our area of Manchester it was used for the original windows in the houses - hence "Whalley Range Restoration". We are now offering these windows for sale nationwide.
All windows are built to the most stringent standards for insulation, using the best sealed unit double glazing available.
Very importantly the windows are made with careful detailing to alllow water and water vapour to ventilate and drain out of the window. This will prevent the premature failure of sealed unit glazing and rot of the frame associated with water and water vapour trapped in conventional timber windows designs.
Window frames are available painted or stained. A fitting service may be available for local orders.
We are an ethical company and use green products and policies as far as possible - eg the use of biodiesel for deliveries.
